A pilot project initiated Fall 2017 allowed us to test new peer-to-peer messaging to two high schools and two junior highs in Bexar County, Texas. The messaging focused on the dangers of distracted walking and promoted pedestrian safety by paying attention to surroundings, knowing pedestrian signals and laws, and factors that place walkers at risk. Along with walking safety, new messaging for young drivers will also be implemented to ensure teens know pedestrian laws and how to look out for the safety of others.
